Frazer Yeats

Frazer Yeats

Family man Frazer gave up gambling to settle down with Rosie. Now the former con artist is embracing the straight-laced life he once tried so hard to escape.

Frazer Yeats turned up on Ramsay Street with a charming smile and a slightly batty fiancée. Cocky, clever and smooth-talking, the slick professional gambler seemed to have all of his new housemates at Number 30 in his thrall… apart from the one he seemed most interested in: Rosetta.

Back in the day, Frazer was fiercely ambitious. He believed he was destined for great things, above and beyond his suburban middle-class roots. That’s partly why he left home as soon as he could and changed his name from the ordinary “George Brown” to something more exotic. Frazer wanted power and money but he didn’t have the patience to build up an empire over a lifetime of work. He wanted the good life and the respect that bling brings and he didn’t care how he got it.

Or at least that’s what he told himself. When dodgy doc Charlotte Stone arrived in Erinsborough it was revealed that she and Frazer had teamed up to dabble in a bit of light con-artistry in their youth. However, while Charlotte thrived on the duplicity and continued down that path, Frazer had scruples that held him back. Although he still made his money from gambling he did it legitimately. His rise to the top would have been so much easier if he hadn’t cared who he crushed along the way, a la Paul Robinson, but Frazer always failed to suppress his nagging conscience.

That being said, Frazer wasn’t entirely averse to misleading people. For a start he and Pepper were never actually engaged. In fact, they barely even knew each other. He was simply looking for an excuse to get closer to Rosetta, the unattainable Italian lawyer and eldest daughter of the wealthy Cammeniti family that his brother Johnny had tried, and failed, to marry. However, what started as financially motivated fraternal revenge soon turned into something altogether different: Frazer fell in love with Rosie for real.

With so much suddenly at stake it took him a while to come clean about his past and admit his connection to Johnny. However, his hand was forced when younger brother Ringo (yes, that’s John, George and Ringo) turned up on his doorstep. Although Ringo did his best to keep up Frazer’s charade, the truth eventually came out. Things were awkward between the couple for a while but everything suddenly changed when Frazer was horrifically injured at the racetrack.

Facing the rest of his life in a wheelchair, Rosie’s support was invaluable and the bond between them grew even stronger. Frazer eventually proposed and Rosie happily accepted. However, when the question of Frazer’s ability to have children arose, doctors were surprised to discover that his injuries were now psychological rather than physical.

Initially Rosie was concerned that Frazer subconsciously believed she was only with him out of pity or a misplaced notion that he was somehow “safer” as a life partner in a wheelchair. Frazer went off to do some soul-searching and found himself at his family’s gravesite. There he discovered a small grave for Paul Brown, a brother he had no recollection of at all.

Digging into his family history, Frazer discovered that his brother had drowned as a child and that he had done nothing to help. Despite being little more than a toddler at the time, Frazer’s mother Prue had always blamed him for Paul’s death and their relationship had been strained ever since. Probing the painful history released a lot of the unspoken tension and Frazer and his family reconciled as a result.

In the meantime feeling began to return to Frazer’s legs, spurred on by Mickey’s accidental electrocution. When Mickey fell face first into the Number 30 pool, Frazer was there to save him and the experience exorcised many of his demons. In the end Frazer was able to walk down the aisle to his beautiful bride on their wedding day.

Frazer settled into suburban domesticity surprisingly quickly. He gave up gambling and became a taxi driver to ensure a regular income for his family. He also became a stronger father figure for Ringo, guiding the troubled teen through his heartbreak over Carmella and dishing out some tough love when he was diagnosed with an eating disorder. Frazer even called on their mother for help, proving how far their relationship had come in recent months.

Having finally come to terms with his history, Frazer found himself more than ready to start a family of his own. Unfortunately career-driven Rosie had other ideas, particularly when niece Chloe Cammeniti was born prematurely. Uptight Rosie struggled to deal with the overwhelming emotion involved and confessed she didn’t think she’d ever be able to handle motherhood herself. Frazer hid his disappointment, quietly hoping that she would eventually change her mind.

Sure enough just a few weeks later, Rosie found herself pregnant. Frazer had to work hard to convince his wife that they were doing the right thing. Will fatherhood suit Frazer as much as he hopes?
