Smith was among a host of other Neighbours cast who spent the afternoon in the sun playing host to nearly 200 residents from the township of Callignee and surrounding areas who were hit hard by the Black Saturday bushfires in February.
"I’ll happily be Harold for the day for these wonderful people," said Smith who spent the day with other cast being photographed, signing autographs, flipping burgers, handing out drinks and taking guests tours of the studios.
Other current and past cast to share the Neighbours spirit was Kym Valentine, Janet Andrewartha, Jackie Woodburne, Scott Major, Ryan Moloney, Hany Lee, Jane Hall, Blake and Fletcher O’Leary, Kaiya Jones, Carla Bonner and Nikki Coghill.
Alan Fletcher, Stefan Dennis and former Neighbours favourite Patrick Harvey sang for the crowd while guests enjoyed a BBQ lunch.
Jane Hall and Scot Major dubbed their studio tour the "Major Hall" event and were a huge hit.
The occasion was the brainchild of Neighours’s executive producer Susan Bower and a donation of $25,000 from FremantleMedia was also made to the local council to assist with replacing the community playground which was destroyed.
"We all felt very privileged to provide some light relief for the residents who have been through so much and are still trying to rebuild their lives," said Bower. "When you hear their stories, it’s very humbling."
