Harry apologises and promises to make things right but while he’s figuring out what to do, Dan warns Declan he’ll have to cancel the Deb unless the smuggler is found. To protect his friends’ special night, Declan returns to Dan and claims the bottle was his all along. However, he’s too late. Harry has already confessed.
The news that Harry has been suspended and the DHS will be called does nothing to improve Kate’s day. Off her experience with Saffron, Donna understands her reluctance to go to the Deb and face Jason Coleman again but Amanda isn’t as generous. She even turns her attentions to Donna and starts spreading nasty rumours about Kate’s best friend. Kate sucks it up until Harry breaks his bad news. Furious with him for putting their family at risk of being split up, Kate heads to Harold’s to cool off, only to end up on the receiving end of more taunts from Amanda. Fired-up Kate finally stands up for herself and tells Amanda she’s not a chicken. She’ll be at that Deb and she’ll face Jason Coleman.
Lyn’s having trouble with the wiring at Harold’s Store but refuses to admit she needs Lou’s help. With Kate’s assistance she manages to figure out a few tricks to stop the circuits overloading… but has she solved the problem?
With missing dresses, broken shoes and absent dates, the girls wonder if their night of nights is about to become a nightmare.
Kate remains furious with Harry over his suspension, and fearful of the consequences with the DHS. But after an angry encounter with Amanda, she now must find a last minute replacement partner. Harry takes matters into his own hands and asks Declan, but he refuses. Kate is mortified that Declan thinks she put Harry up to it, and makes an agonised apology. As a reflex response she asks Lou. The Kennedys embark on a campaign to find her a new partner. Declan, meanwhile, is battling his feelings about not going to the Deb. He seeks advice from his two favourite girls. Can he overcome his sadness and loyalty to his departed Bridget and help Kate out?
Kate and Declan surprise the teens when they show up at the Debutante Ball. Kate faces not only cruel Amanda but the terrifying thought of seeing Jason Coleman – the man who crushed her dancing dreams. When Amanda causes Kate’s dress to be ruined, it takes a pep talk from Declan to show Kate the way forward. With a little help from her friends, Kate proves to Jason Coleman she has what it takes to be a dancer.
With the guilt about her new cash reserves hanging over her head, Elle partners Lucas to the Debutante Ball. After Toadie encourages her to tell Lucas the truth about her money, Elle struggles to find the courage to tell him. And when she finds an ATM slip in his pocket showing he’s just withdrawn a large sum of cash, she is convinced he’s gambling again. When she finally confronts him, nervous Lucas shocks Elle with the truth behind his nerves…
Stunned by Lucas’ commitment reversal and guilt-ridden at not having told him she’s sold the house, Elle questions his proposal, suggesting things are great the way they are. Knowing Elle’s secret, Toadie pushes Lucas to find out the truth behind her reluctance, but Dan suggests maybe Elle is right; there’s no rush. Lucas makes a romantic plea to Elle, assuring her he’s conquered his issues and there’s nothing to worry about. However, Elle comes clean and reveals that she’s sold the house and lied to him. To Elle’s surprise, Lucas isn’t fazed, declaring he’d marry her if she was rich, poor, or anywhere in between. But Dan has doubts and reveals to Elle he’s worried Lucas’ eagerness to prove his love to her may harm his recovery. Realising that Dan doesn’t trust his brother, Elle accidentally pushes Lucas away, before showing him how much she trusts him. Dan bites his tongue, but Elle confronts him, demanding to know what right he has to question her relationship. Lucas overhears and realising his brother’s betrayal, confronts Dan, choosing his fiancé over his family.
Babysitting Ben and Callum, pregnant Susan and Karl are reminded of the joys of having children. However, when Ben and Callum turn the place upside down they soon realise how grateful they are the child Susan’s carrying isn’t theirs. The boys’ punishment is their homework, but Susan realises Callum’s failing subjects he shouldn’t be. What’s going on with Callum?
Dan shocks Libby and Toadie by admitting he can’t support his brother’s engagement to Elle. Meanwhile Paul is impressed by the way Lucas and Elle make a strong team, and begins to accept their love. Tensions flare when the two families meet at Harold’s, and Dan realises he has to work to smooth things over. But his attempts to explain himself to Lucas only inflame the situation. When Libby learns Dan confessed to Paul that he doesn’t think the marriage will work, she pushes him to recognise that’s up to Lucas and Elle to decide, not him. Knowing she’s right, Dan goes back to Lucas, trying to put their disagreement behind them. But is the Fitzgerald brothers’ relationship too broken to repair?
Steph tries to play down her jealousy when she learns of Lucas’ engagement to Elle. Seeing through her mask, Toadie’s intent on distracting her from her gloom. He enlists her to help him convince Callum and Sophie there’s no need to be afraid of entering high school. Harry accidentally throws Callum and Sophie’s friendship into doubt, but manages to patch things up, convincing his sister the move to a new school is nothing to be afraid of. But just as Sophie’s feeling okay again, a special visit from DHS throws the Ramsay family’s future into doubt.
